Professional Experience

Scientist
Distributed Systems Department
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
October 2002 - current

Principal investigator and system architect for the A Scalable and Secure Peer-to-Peer Information Sharing Tool project. As part of this project we have developed a lightweight, extensible, and secure information-sharing platform. We used this platform to create a secure peer-to-peer file-sharing application that enables scientists to store and manage their files on local storage facilities while sharing them with remote participants.

Co-investigator, system architect, and protocol developer for the InterGroup group communication system. Current work includes formalizing the specifications and algorithms for InterGroup using I/O automata, and proving that the algorithms match the specifications. InterGroup is part of the Reliable and Secure Group Communication project.

Developer for the Extended Metadata Registry (XMDR) project. Current work includes integrating an inference engine into the XMDR prototype.

Computer Systems Engineer III
Distributed Systems Department
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
October 2000 - September 2002

Co-investigator responsible for design and development of the InterGroup group communication system. An integral part in the development of InterGroup is working with the other investigators in developing the mechanisms required to secure InterGroup. (http://dsd.lbl.gov/CIF/GroupComm/)

Developed a visualization tool (SCNMPlot) for analysis of data gathered in the Self Configuring Network Monitoring (SCNM) project. The SCNM project is developing an infrastructure that enables applications to determine what is happening to their data in the network by expanding past the common end-to-end approaches. SCNMPlot is an extension to jPlot and xplot that allows multiple plots to be overlayed and individually manipulated within one frame.

Graduate Student Research Assistant
Distributed Systems Department
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
August 1997 - September 2000
Designed and developed a prototype of the InterGroup protocols. The InterGroup protocols are a group communication system that is designed to scale to the Internet.

Graduate Student Research Assistant
Electrical and Computer Engineering Department
University of California, Santa Barbara
October 1996 - July 1997
Designed and implemented modifications to the Totem Single Ring Protocol. Totem is a group communication system that was developed at UCSB and used in several collaboratory projects at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
