With only three days spent in Mumbai so far, we have been incredibly productive following a semester of anticipation and preparation. Six hours of our first day was spent in Behrampada meeting with the Mahila Mandel women and four out of the six families which have been using the Haat meN Sehat water-treatment system since February. The women warmly welcomed us back to the community, and were very excited when we suggested the development of a community education center operated out of a local room.

Mumbai Bound: Summer 2006

Set some alphonso mangoes aside, Mumbai–we are on our way! Adam Reich, Anu Sridharan, and Erin Inglish will spend two and a half months in Mumbai working with the Behram community. Arvind Sadasivan and Jasneet Kholi, student members of SIFE at Somaiya, will join forces with the Berkeley team upon their arrival on June 1st. Scott ReMine from UC Davis will arrive mid-June to continue a rigorous background investigation on diarrheal illness in Behram. Together this team will spend the summer training hygiene educators and investigating appropriate methods for disseminating the Haat MeN Sehat Pani ka Filter. Read the rest of this entry »
